Short answerWhat is a Brain Score?
The Brain Score is Engine AI's free self-assessment of how ready a business is to get real value from AI. It scores eight dimensions from 0 to 3 (operational data, shared definitions, documented processes, knowledge capture, change flow, corrections, AI context, and governance) for a total out of 24. The framework is the same eight-check Company Brain Audit used in Engine AI's paid AI Readiness Audit; the free score is self-reported and indicative, while the paid audit verifies it against evidence and turns it into a costed roadmap. Most New Zealand businesses score between 4 and 7, which usually reflects strong knowledge held in people's heads but little of it written down, connected, or usable by AI tools.
How It's Scored
Eight checks. No black box.
Each dimension scores 0 to 3: 0 Absent · 1 Tacit · 2 Scattered · 3 Operational. The first three are your foundations: what your business knows. The other five are capabilities: how that knowledge moves, improves, and reaches your AI tools.
Data
